John Dick's Milwaukee Road
John Dick’s beautiful layout is based off the Beer Line from Milwaukee, WI in the late 1960s. The mainline runs from Humboldt Yard south to Lincoln Storage / Juneau Avenue, which as the end of the line. John and his family have done hours of research on the prototype, collecting many historical photographs of the region.
The benchwork is built with 1/4” plywood, framed with 1” x 4” stock. The layout is built on 18” shelves, and winds around our upstairs loft for approximately 47 feet in length. It forms a “deformed-S” shape, as it fills a roughly 20’ x 16’ rectangular space.
Track on the line is Micro Engineering Code 83 flex-track. Turnouts are built from Fast Tracks #4 jig. All the signature structures are scratchbuilt (or being scratchbuilt), except for the Schlitz bottling plant. John’s pike has a Digitrax control system.
