Little Hats, Big Hearts
Volunteers for the American Heart Association celebrate American Heart Month by knitting and crocheting red hats for all babies born in February at participating hospitals. Little Hats, Big Hearts™ started in February 2014 in Chicago, IL collecting 300 hats in the first year. In each successive year, the program has expanded. Through this program the American Heart Association raises awareness of heart disease, the number one killer of Americans, and congenital heart defects, the most common type of birth defect in the country.
If you knit or crochet (or would like to learn) we have an opportunity for you to participate in Little Hats, Big Hearts™. We have a supply of red worsted weight yarn, size 6 straight knitting needles, size G crochet hooks, and copies of a few hat patterns, including beginner and more advanced patterns. If you are an experienced knitter and would like to knit in the round, please plan to bring your own circular or double pointed needles. You will find the materials in the Non-Rail R&R room (which is the Westin Hotel, Grand I).
